XAVC S and FCP-7

I'm trying out XAVC S on a Sony camera, but the files I get on the card are identified as MPEG-4, with codec H.264, linear PCM. I'm not sure what this is telling me. I gather they need to be converted. Anything else to know?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

That format came out way after FCP 7 was discontinued. So no internal support for it exists. You need to use a third party converter. EditReady by divergentmedia.com will convert this format. Choose ProRes 422 and you'll be all set.
